Kate Montgomery

Kate Montgomery, M.S.Ed., M.Phil.Ed., LCMHCA

You have taken the first step in supporting your child by seeking mental health services. Your commitment to your family is recognized, and it would be a privilege to facilitate your child becoming the best version of themselves with you. The world is not designed for neurodiverse individuals, which may cause your child to struggle and is hard to watch as someone who loves them.

Together, I aim to empower you and your child to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by scaffolding the development of coping skills and language that can support them across settings and challenges. I work collaboratively with the young person to develop personalized interventions so that your child can do the following: take ownership of their actions, feel empowered to communicate with the adults who care for them, and address the underlying causes of their presenting problem during and beyond their work with me.

To address your child’s goals during counseling, I utilize evidence-based interventions and techniques from cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), pivotal response treatment (PRT), and mindfulness. My approach to therapy is adapted for young people as they can often articulate their actions and behaviors more easily than their thoughts or feelings, which require language they may not yet have or find difficult to express.

To determine if I would be a good match to support your family, you can schedule a 15-minute virtual consultation call at 704-552-0116, option 2.
