David Verhaagen, Ph.D.,
ABPP
After earning his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North
Carolina
at Chapel Hill, Dave Verhaagen went on to serve as the clinical director
of
three mental health agencies. Dr. Verhaagen has been in private practice
in
Charlotte for over a decade and is the author of five books, including a
recent parenting book. He is a popular speaker, having given hundreds of presentations at local, state, and national conferences.
Dr. Verhaagen works primarily with high school and college-age students,
though he does see some younger or older clients. His specialties
include
adoption
issues, anger
problems, anxiety, depression, drug and
alcohol problems, school and
learning-related problems (including ADHD), as well as trauma
(accidents, abuse, violence, etc.)
In addition to
therapy, he conducts evaluations for ADHD/LD, Academic
Excellence, and Asperger's Syndrome/High Functioning Autism through the
SPS
Assessment Center. He also completes risk assessments (violence risk,
sexual offending, threat assessments) on occasion.
