Karen Hooper, Ph.D.         

Dr. Hooper earned her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. She completed her internship in clinical psychology at Harvard Medical School/Veteran’s Health Administration in Boston, MA. She then went on to complete a two-year Post-Doctorate in Primary Care Psychology through the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

A fitness professional prior to graduate training, Dr. Hooper has combined her interest in health with a specialization in medical psychology in order to provide an integrated treatment approach focused on wellness. She works with people on the entire health continuum, from people with no health concerns to those facing the challenges of physical disabilities or chronic or terminal illnesses. Her philosophy is a strength-based approach, helping clients first identify and then build upon what they are already doing well.

Dr. Hooper has developed a unique, individualized psychotherapeutic program, “Minds in Motion.” This comprehensive program works within a holistic framework that equally addresses body, mind, and spirit. Sessions are a full hour and can include gentle exercise. To register for this program or for additional information please contact Dr. Hooper directly. Dr. Hooper also provides individual, geriatric, couple, family, and group counseling. She works with people experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, self-esteem and identity concerns, career changes, specific crises, issues of grief and loss, and questions of spirituality.

Additional services include consultations, trainings, seminars, presentations, and assessments to businesses, medical organizations, and the public. Some general topics include motivation, holistic health, stress management, grief, and behavioral health issues. Dr. Hooper is also bi-cultural and bi-lingual in Spanish.
